Photo Gallery: Snorkeling with Blue Sharks

In our Gallery feature, we let the photos tell the story… Each Gallery showcases a selection of outstanding images on a chosen theme, taken by our Underwater Photography Editor Nick and Deputy Editor Caroline of Frogfish Photography. They look back on an incredible trip to Cornwall, with Charles Hood, that saw them snorkeling with Blue Sharks.

Who would have thought that such an experience was available in the UK? But, in the summer months, it is possible to travel to Cornwall and snorkel with beautiful Blue Sharks. The conditions have to be good and we were lucky to arrive on a weekend where the sun was shining and the sea was calm. Jumping onto Charlie Hood’s RIB Logan, we headed out to sea to a location that is good for spotting Blue Sharks, and waited and waited…

Sometimes they come quickly, sometimes they make you wait! Sometimes you get a dozen or so sharks, sometimes you only get one. We were so excited when a single Blue Shark arrived at the boat it didn’t matter to us. We got into our wetsuits, masks, snorkels and fins, grabbed our cameras and gently slid into the water.
